Macro Trends Fellow
Sanjay Khanna is a macro-trend expert, communications consultant and business advisor whose thinking encompasses a wide range of topics, including adaptation and innovation in the context of twenty-first century volatility. Mr. Khanna was appointed the Saul Rae Fellow at Massey College in the University of Toronto for the 2011-2012 academic year. At the College, Mr. Khanna co-taught a four-part seminar series entitled ‘Adapting to the Future.’ Mr. Khanna will be appointed Visiting Scholar at Massey College during 2012-2013, and will continue to explore how non-linear macroeconomic, environmental, and population health risks may affect business and society in the years and decades ahead.
Mr. Khanna's articles and Op-eds on arts, culture, politics, technology, the economy, the environment, and community resilience have been featured in Nature, Grist, Reuters, Worldchanging, The Tyee, Sun-Times News Group and Corporate Knights. Nominated as a ‘Transformational Canadian’ in 2010 in Canada's national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, Mr. Khanna brought together stakeholders in business, disaster risk management, biodiversity, and ecosystem health as part of his co-founding of the world's first conference on population-scale psychological, social and cultural challenges amidst growing macroeconomic, environmental and climatic risk.
With more than 15 years’ experience in advertising, analyst relations, corporate communications and print and online journalism, Mr. Khanna has collaborated with Hewlett-Packard Co., Nokia Corp., SAP AG, and Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, communicating about disruptive patterns in business, technology and society, and contributing creative insight to speed innovation of new products and services. In 2005 and 2006, Mr. Khanna was on the advisory council of ICIS, the International Centre for Creativity, Innovation and Sustainability in Hornbaek, Denmark. In 2002, he received a scholarship to the Global Business Network’s scenario-planning program, where he engaged with scenario thinkers and strategists from Deutsche Bank, the Government of Singapore (Prime Minister’s Office), Mars Corporation, Morgan Stanley, Pemex and Petroleos de Venezuela. Mr. Khanna's clients have operated in a wide range of industries, including automation, business-to-business exchanges, customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning, finance, healthcare, imaging and printing, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, robotics and mobile telecommunications. Mr. Khanna holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of British Columbia.
